Ameriglide Stair Lifts

Ameriglide stair lifts are in fact manufactured by Summit Stairlifts, who have been in the stair chair industry for the past 20 years. Ameriglide stair lifts offer the user a choice of either an AC or DC powered stair chair lift. We would highly recommend always choosing a DC, or battery operated, stair lift for a number of reasons.

The first, and most critical factor in our opinion is that an AC powered Ameriglide stair lift requires a trailing cable to power them from the mains. Not only do you have to be a qualified electrician in order to install them, but also having a mains cable can be a potential hazard in terms of the risk of electric shock. The trailing cable also comes under continuous strain since it is constantly being reeled in and reeled out, which over time, can cause the circuit in the cable to fail. This can cause the stair lift to come to an abrupt stop while in use.

The Ameriglide DC model offers a superior smooth ride quality and is much more controllable for the stair lift user. AC stairlifts tend to have harsh, jarring starts and can also be noisy, particularly the outdated wire cable hauled models. This can be particularly important if the user suffers from lower back pain or if you require a stair lift for a disabled user. A DC powered stair chair lift will also continue working even during a power cut. The batteries are very reliable and are recharged when the chair lift is not in use. They will usually last up to 3 years.

A great feature of the Ameriglide range is that it is completely maintenance free. Unlike many competitor models that have gearboxes with vent plugs, the gearbox on the Ameriglide stair lift is completely sealed, which prevents the possibility of oil leaking onto your staircase carpet. Most competitor lifts use rack and pinion gear racks to drive the stair chair, which require dust-collecting grease, to prevent wear and tear.

The Ameriglide lift uses a wide padded seat for your comfort, which folds up when not in use. Additionally, the fold-up footrest can be adjusted to two different heights and the backrest has three different positions, particularly important when choosing a stair lift for disabled users. The 180-degree swivel seat allows the user to safely and comfortably mount and dismount the stair chair lift both at the top and bottom of the staircase.

The Ameriglide stair lift can be placed on either side of your staircase and the contol toggle can be placed on either arm. The standard call controls are mounted on the floor at each end of the staircase and can be foot operated or secured to the wall and operated by hand. This allows you to call the stair chair lift if it is at the opposite end of the staircase, particularly useful if you have more than one stairlift user in your houseshold.

As a safety feature, the Ameriglide have included a footrest safety sensor, to stop the lift if there was an obstacle on the stairs. There are also limit switches that stop the unit in exactly the same position at the top and bottom of the stair each time it is used. Ameriglide offer a 3 year warranty on 100% of all the component parts of their stair chair lifts.
