Stair Lift Rentals
A question that we are often asked is, “Should I buy a stair lift outright or go for a rental option?” On the face of it, the idea of renting a stair lift does have some appeal. The initial payment will be less than the purchase price and regular monthly payments can make the installation a more viable option, particularly to pensioners with limited funds.
However, in our opinion, it is generally only worth considering renting when the stair lift is going to be used for a short time. Although the monthly payments will seem more manageable, in the long term you could end up paying more than the initial cost had you purchased outright.
If you are considering renting, it is vitally important that you fully understand exactly what will be included in the contract. Always have everything confirmed in writing and read the small print, as rental packages can be dressed up differently and may appear more cost effective than they actually are.
Under normal circumstances, you will normally be expected to pay a deposit, which can range from £500- £1000. This will include the initial installation, the power supply, maintenance and breakdown cover, the removal costs once the stair lift is no longer required and the first 3 months payments. Following this, the monthly payments will normally be around £50-£100.
It is worth considering that rentals are normally only available on straight stair lifts. If you are unsure what type of lift you will require, please visit our measuring guide. Since rentals will normally be pre used models, you will normally be limited in the choice of colour that you would otherwise be able to.
