The left or right-handed joystick, or optional rocker switch, are extremely responsive and a light touch enables the user to gently glide up and down the stairs. Upon reaching the top of the staircase, simply depress a lever or use the optional powered swivel, to turn the seat so that it faces the landing. This enables a safe transfer in and out of the stair chair, since the chair itself acts as a safety barrier.

For customers who have a curved staircase in their home, Stannah have developed a curved stair lifts, specifically designed to meet this need. The Stannah 260 has been designed for winding, curved staircases and the innovative slim carriage and rail make the 260 particularly suitable for narrower stairways. The stair lift rail that accompanies the 260 means that it can also be fitted to the stair treads on either side of the staircase. Stannah have also pioneered a purpose built outdoor stair lift. The Stannah 310 is specifically designed for outdoor use on a straight slope.
