Straight Stair Lifts
- Quick installations for peace of
mind
Straight stairlifts
travel in a straight line from your landing to the top of
your stairs, and are designed for staircases which do not
have any twists or turns. If your stairs have two or more
sections that are straight, then you will require either
two straight stairlifts or a curved stair lift. A common
misconception is for someone to believe that they have
straight stairs, when in fact they have more than one
section that is straight.
The easiest way to determine whether a straight stair lift will
be viable is to take a straight piece of wood approximately 2'
x 4'. If this can travel from the top of your stairs to the
bottom landing, and rest on the move of each step for the full
length, then a straight stair lift will certainly be an option
for you. However, it is important to consider that in most
circumstances, straight stairlifts will have an overhang at the
top of the stairs, which can vary from a few inches to more
than a foot. This is an important consideration, since it could
impede access to the top of the stairs, particularly if a
member of your family uses a wheelchair.
The installation of straight stair lifts is, in most
circumstances, much quicker than a curved stair lift and is
usually significantly cheaper. A real advantage of having
straight stairlifts fitted, is that the only difference between
one stairlift and another is the length of the track. This
makes choosing your stairlift much easier and less time
consuming.
