A summit lift is designed with several safety features t provide peace of mind to the user. The footrest has been fitted with safety sensors that will stop the stair chair lift immediately, should its path become blocked in either direction. There is also a swivel safety switch, which ensures that the seat is in the correct position before the stairway lift can be operated. A seat belt is also included as standard. The aircraft cable that drives the stair chair has regulators that constantly monitor the tension. These again will automatically stop the chair lift should a problem arise.

Summit claim that they are the only American stair lift manufacturer that can boast that their stair chair requires zero maintenance during the 3 year warranty period of the lift.  However, this warranty does not include labor or the general wear and tear of the upholstery.
